He has six combined years of public affairs experience in East and Southeast Asia. Derrick spent much of his career in the Pentagon in Washington D.C. as spokesperson for the Secretary of the Navy during the Trump Administration and serving on the communications team for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs during the Obama Administration. He specialises in media relations and international crisis communication with some noteworthy projects such as the response to Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, the mass shooting by a Saudi Air Force member in Pensacola, Florida, and the response to the COVID outbreak aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt, as depicted in the 2023 Amazon bestseller, Vectors.
