Sean Dunston
Artist
Concrete Jungle Design
Sean Dunston is a multidisciplinary, self-taught artist from the US with a background in construction. His work casting bespoke concrete fixtures and furniture brought him to Singapore, where he is now based.
Synthesised between art and manual skills, Dunston is drawn to traditional paint techniques and marries them seamlessly with his expertise in fabrication by layering detailed brush work and scarified masonry and structural concrete, resulting in an almost distorted, fragmented accompaniment to his strong yet vulnerable subject matter.
His works explore and capture the essence of individuals, real and mythical, through industrialism and their co-existence in the urban landscape.
His recent commissions include an epic mural covering the entire facade of seven storey hotel in Singapore that He painted via rope access, a siren that spans two floors of the Starbucks Reserve at Jewel, Changi Airport, and the infamous Samsui Woman at Rest.
