Datin Anita Azrina Abdul Aziz
Senior General Manager, Group Strategic Communications, Petronas
Anita heads Group Strategic Communications (GSC), PETRONAS where she provides stewardship and orchestrates integrated communications strategy encompassing brand management, media communications, digital communications, communications management, change management and stakeholder relations for PETRONAS group globally.
A seasoned communicator with 32-years of experience in communications, marketing and stakeholder relations, Anita is known for her pivotal role in negotiating PETRONAS’ deal to sponsor the Mercedes AMG PETRONAS Formula 1 team. Leading the company’s motorsports unit from 2008, Anita helped set a strong foundation for the 13-year successful collaboration with Mercedes AMG PETRONAS Formula 1 team.
Anita joined PETRONAS in 1989, starting her career in the trading and marketing of crude oil as well as business development for Gas.
She joined the Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC) project in 2015 as the Head, Stakeholder, Communications & Risk Management. PIC is PETRONAS’ largest Downstream investment in Malaysia, designed to capitalise on the growing need for energy and petrochemical products in Asia.
At PIC, Anita was the driving force behind the successful social impact programme #ForPengerang which pushed for economic empowerment and wellness of surrounding communities through more than 90 initiatives. She also oversaw the production of the National Geographic documentary Megastructures: Malaysia’s Largest Petrochemical Hub.
Anita who sits on various boards and committees within PETRONAS, is passionate about humanising corporate communications in closing the divide between corporations and their stakeholders, especially customers. She strongly believes that the onus is on corporations to go on the ground and interact with their stakeholders. This is to build trust, while embracing humanity and being a good corporate citizen.
