Speaker's Profile
David Thorn
Vice President, Content
ExpressVPN
David comes to marketing by way of journalism, a former New York Times editor now leading the global content operation for Kape Technologies’ Privacy Division and its flagship brand, ExpressVPN. ExpressVPN today draws more than 20 million unique visitors to its website every month in 20-plus languages. Starting five years ago with a team of eight, David now oversees more than 40 full-time writers, editors, and project managers based in North America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Australia, as well as dozens of freelance translators and writers all over the world. Together they work on an expanding portfolio of digital privacy and security products used by more than 6 million subscribers worldwide, writing everything from in-app text to website sales copy to podcaster ad scripts.
After starting his career in Texas at The Dallas Morning News, David arrived in Hong Kong 16 years ago to lead the editing desk for the Asian editions of the International Herald Tribune, which evolved into The New York Times’s global edition. His time in newspapers taught him the importance of getting it right and getting to the point. It was also when he began The Day in Style, a memo on grammar and usage that (very occasionally) still appears, most recently on LinkedIn.
